Editionnotes: Text as in 1750 reprint of John Hughes’ 1715 edition of the works. -- Preliminary matter in v. 1 includes Hughes’ life of the poet, his ’Remarks on the Fairy Queen’, Spenser’s letter to Raleigh (23 January 1589), and an "Advertisement" to the reader. -- Glossary at end of v. 2 (pp. 484ff.) Advertised in ’The Daily Advertiser’ for Apr. 13, 1758. --Apparently issued by Tonsons in case a rival edition by Ralph Church (issued by William Faden) made it through the press before their own 4to edition annotated by John Upton (cf.
